I'm afraid I don't agree with Mark. If all it took to launch a successful web service was code then what he says is true. However nothing he has worked on required a business model in order to survive. Bloglines was written as a geek tool and he admits that he did it along side his paying job.
If you just want to launch a gimmick (albeit with potential for proper further development) then 3 months is more than enough time. But coding is never what consumes all the time or resources - it's the small details required to run a successful business model.
